Job description: General Assembly is seeking an experienced Interior Designer to join their design team. Working with a team of architects, designers and project managers, the Interior Designer will take the lead on several high end residential projects.Salary is commensurate with experience. We are looking to hire immediately and encourage qualified candidates to apply as soon as possible.Job RequirementsDESIGN AND DOCUMENTATION:
- Produce concept boards, FF&E specifications, and design presentations
- Create floor plans, elevations, and other presentation drawings (AutoCAD, SketchUp, etc.)
- Source furniture, lighting, finishes, and materials with a balance of creativity and budget awareness – Manage vendor communication for pricing, lead times, and samples
PROJECT SUPPORT:
- Own furniture scope within larger projects, or full scope for Interiors focused projects
- Attend client meetings and take clear notes, translating feedback into actionable next steps
- Prepare and manage schedules, punch lists, and item trackers – Assist with procurement coordination and installations
DESIGN AUTONOMY:
- Confident in selecting design direction with minimal creative input after initial direction from Partners
- Able to justify selections with a clear understanding of context, client, and brand aesthetic
- Thinks ahead in presentations, catching missing pieces and clarifying logistics
COLLABORATION & CULTURE FIT:
- Can collaborate well with a PM, Senior Designer, and architectural drafter
- Open to feedback and able to iterate quickly
- Takes initiative but knows when to escalate decisions
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field
- 5+ years of professional interior design experience (preferably in residential or hospitality)
PROFICIENCY IN:
- AutoCAD
- Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop)
- Studio Designer or other procurement tools (a plus)
- Strong portfolio that shows range in styles and scales of work
- Experience coordinating with architects, millworkers, or construction teams
