Job description: Reports ToGeneral ManagerOverviewWe are an established plastic and foam injection molding manufacturer undergoing a $5M expansion of our plant in Marion, SC. As part of this expansion, we are looking to bring our hydro-dipping process in-house and bring on the right leader to take the reigns from the ground-up!We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Hydro-Dipping Department Manager to lead the creation and daily operations of a new in-house hydro-dipping (water transfer printing) department. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for establishing processes, building a team, and driving quality, efficiency, and safety for a wide range of molded products including vehicle parts, gun stocks, and specialty items.This position is ideal for someone with deep technical experience in hydro-dipping, an understanding of finishing processes, and the ability to lead both people and projects.Key ResponsibilitiesDepartment Setup & LaunchLead the setup and commissioning of the in-house hydro-dipping facility, including layout planning, equipment selection, workflow design, and vendor coordination.Develop SOPs and work instructions for hydro-dipping, pre-treatment, painting, drying, and clear coating processes.Collaborate with engineering, quality, and maintenance to ensure all systems are properly integrated.Team LeadershipRecruit, train, and manage a team of hydro-dipping technicians and support staff.Create and maintain shift schedules, work assignments, and performance management metrics.Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.Production ManagementPlan and oversee daily operations to meet quality, output, and delivery targets.Ensure timely processing of molded components with consistent attention to surface preparation, dipping technique, curing times, and finish quality.Coordinate with production planning, molding, and assembly teams to maintain efficient flow of parts.Quality Control & Process ImprovementImplement visual, dimensional, and adhesion inspection standards to maintain finish integrity and durability.Identify and resolve process issues and defects such as bubbling, stretching, misalignment, or coating flaws.Track KPIs related to scrap rate, rework, productivity, and on-time completion; drive initiatives to improve performance.Safety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with all safety, environmental, and OSHA standards for chemicals, ventilation, PPE, and equipment usage.Maintain up-to-date documentation of MSDS, safety protocols, and employee training records.QualificationsRequired3–5+ years of experience in hydro-dipping/water transfer printing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.Proven success managing production operations and quality standards in a finishing or coatings environment.Strong understanding of paint systems, activators, base coats, clear coats, and environmental controls.Experience with hydrographic equipment, including tanks, rinse systems, drying ovens, and spraying systems.Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to read blueprints, interpret specifications, and maintain documentation.PreferredExperience in the automotive, firearms, or consumer products industry.Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices.Familiarity with injection molding and part handling.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceHealth, dental, and vision insurancePTO and paid holidays401(k) with company matchCareer advancement opportunities within a growing operation * Relocation reimbursement
