Location: Newport, Rhode IslandUS Citizenship, a DoD Secret Security clearance, onsite.Linux Engineer to join our Submarine Trainer Development Team supporting the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, RI.Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities for this position are to design, develop, install, and integrate submarine training systems. Qualified applicants will perform the following tasks:Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, system services, application software and system management tools for Linux systems, both natively and within virtual machines
Work with team to monitor and test applications, virtual machines, and containers to identify issues with installation and performance.
Troubleshoot Information Technology (IT) Systems to diagnose and suggest/implement potential solutions.
Support physical hardware installation of IT computing equipment and cabling at both local and remote sites.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or other related field and 5 years’ experience, Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience bachelor’s or 9 years in lieu of degree
Experience with bash scripting.
Experience with virtualization technologies, preferably Red Hat KVM (e.g., Red Hat KVM, VMware, libvirt/virsh)
Networking knowledge (OSI Network Layers, TCP/IP, DHCP)
US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
Ability to work on site at Middletown RI.Preferred Qualifications:Active Security Clearance
Current IAT Level I Certifications
o Network+
o Security+
o Linux+
Experience with Cisco switch/router configuration development and deployment
Experience with System Build Automation Tools (Linux kickstart, Puppet, Windows Deployment Server (WDS))
Computer/Electronics Hardware knowledge
Intel server configurations
Configuration management experience with both centralized and distributed version control systems (e.g., SVN and Git)
Experience with submarine tactical systems.
