Job description: Business Development ManagerPosition OverviewThe Business Development (BD) / Vendor Liaison is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and managing relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, and consulting partners within the pharmaceutical and life sciences industry. This role plays a crucial part in expanding Terrain Pharmaceuticals’ product pipeline, optimizing supplier relationships, and ensuring smooth vendor negotiations.Working closely with Sales, Technical Teams, and the VP of Operations, this individual will streamline vendor communications, conduct preliminary vetting of suppliers, and support negotiations to align partnerships with business objectives. This role is a manager of processes and relationships with no direct reports.Key ResponsibilitiesVendor Outreach & Relationship Management
- Conduct preliminary outreach to suppliers, manufacturers, and consulting partners, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Schedule and coordinate calls, meetings, and site visits to assess potential vendor capabilities.
- Maintain ongoing communication with current vendors, ensuring strong partnerships and consistent supply chain efficiency.
- Act as the primary liaison between the company and external vendors, managing inquiries, follow-ups, and issue resolution.
Vendor Qualification & Procurement Support
- Vet and qualify new vendors based on compliance requirements, capacity, pricing, and overall alignment with business needs.
- Conduct due diligence on suppliers to ensure they meet quality, regulatory, and logistical standards.
- Track vendor performance and identify risk factors, compliance concerns, or potential disruptions in the supply chain.
- Maintain accurate vendor records, including agreements, pricing structures, and performance evaluations.
Negotiation & Contract Support
- Depending on experience, handle quote requests, pricing evaluations, and preliminary contract negotiations.
- Work with Sales, Operations, and Compliance teams to ensure that vendor agreements align with business strategy and regulatory standards.
- Support in drafting, reviewing, and finalizing vendor agreements and pricing structures to ensure cost-effectiveness.
Business Development & Market Expansion
- Identify and assess new supplier opportunities to expand Terrain Pharmaceuticals’ product offerings.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, competitive suppliers, and regulatory changes impacting vendor selection.
- Provide insights on new sourcing opportunities, alternative supply chains, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams to understand evolving product needs and sourcing challenges.
Compliance & Documentation Management
- Ensure that all vendors adhere to pharmaceutical industry regulations and Terrain’s internal compliance standards.
- Maintain detailed records of supplier qualifications, compliance certifications, and regulatory approvals.
- Assist with vendor audits and documentation requests related to quality control and supply chain oversight.
Key Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of business development experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare industry.
- Strong knowledge of supplier sourcing, vendor management, and business negotiation.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with executives, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Fluent English proficiency (especially for overseas candidates), with professional email and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while ensuring compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
- Experience with supply chain, contract negotiations, or vendor vetting is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Pipedrive) or vendor management platforms is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in pharmaceutical manufacturing, API sourcing, or supplier management.
- Experience handling contract negotiations and pricing agreements.
- Familiarity with GMP, FDA, or international regulatory requirements for pharmaceutical vendors.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess supplier capabilities, costs, and compliance factors.
