Job DescriptionMECC is located in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, in the heart of the Appalachian mountains. We are seeking passionate and experienced professionals to join our Workforce Solutions Division as adjunct instructors in Carpentry and Electricity. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals who are dedicated to sharing their industry expertise and making a positive impact in the lives of adult learners and career professionals.Classes will be taught in Lee County and Dickenson County, Virginia.As an adjunct faculty member, you will have the opportunity to teach students in hands-on, career-focused programs that prepare them for success in the trades. Your role will include developing course materials, delivering engaging lessons, and assessing student performance. Both in-person and online teaching options are available, and we encourage applicants with diverse teaching styles to apply.Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA’s/Required QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities necessary to be successful in the position:
- Must demonstrate ability to deliver coursework by in-person instruction.
- Develop and deliver engaging course content in Carpentry and/or Electricity that meets the needs of students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement, motivation, and success.
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to meet the needs of different learners.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their progress.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.
- Collaborate with other faculty and staff to ensure curriculum alignment and continuous program improvement.
- Stay current with industry trends, safety standards, and best practices in the field.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching effectiveness.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Strong communications skills and the ability to engage and inspire adult learners.
- Extensive professional experience in Carpentry and/or Electricity, with a strong understanding of industry standards, practices, and safety protocols.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate a range of learning styles.
- Commitment to student success and the mission of the college.
- For Carpentry: Familiarity with construction techniques, building codes, and tools/equipment used in the trade.
- For Electricity: Knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, codes, and troubleshooting practices.
Additional Considerations
- A valid and current industry certification or license in the area of instruction.
- Teaching experience in the area of instruction.
