Our Team. Our Passion. Our Approach.Position Summary:The Controls Engineer III will be responsible for aiding in the commissioning of controls for conveyor and sortation systems. This position is focused on implementing site-based controls for new equipment within new or existing customer systems. To support the project scope and schedule, this position will work with other members of the FORTNA Controls group to ensure drawings and software are completed, installed, commissioned, and documented as required.Responsibilities:Write and implement machine code, integrate subsystems, and assist in all on-site commissioning efforts.Utilize “Human Machine Interface” (HMI) using commercially available products such as Wonderware, RSView and Factory Talk view.Implement basic PLC and HMI programs to satisfy current design and customer specifications under the supervision of Sr. Level Controls EngineersWork with FORTNA employees, customer representatives and third-party vendors to ensure all aspects of a project are considered during both the design and commissioning phasesReview electrical designs and provide accurate as-builts drawings for approval.Lead a team to commission complex automated systems, provide site engineering support, and complete system acceptance testing.Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives.Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects.May serve as a mentor to more entry level Controls Engineers.Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:Capable of effectively applying technical knowledge to solve a range of problems.Capable of detecting, recognizing a problem, identifying the nature of the problem, carefully inspecting and finding facts and developing a clear picture of the problem.Capable of critical analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of new and complex ideas.Capable of making a systematic comparison of two or more alternatives.Capable of applying fundamental Project, Service and Relationship Management Principles.Ability to schedule, manage, and execute basic system implementations, enhancements, and retrofits.Oral and Written Communications. Advanced knowledge of preparing and delivering presentations; excellent written capabilities.Education and Experience:BS. Degree in Engineering with 5-8 years relevant work experience OR M.S. Degree in Engineering with 3-6 years relevant work experience.Other Qualifications Desired:PLC programming (RSlogix, RSLadder, Studio 5000, etc.).HMI Programming (RSview, Factory Talk View, etc.).Input and output device design and implementation.Industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Devicenet, Profinet, etc.).Low voltage electrical design and drawing creation.Experience using CAD software to create electrical drawings and schematics. (Autocad)Experience with VFDs a plus.Experience with Microsoft 365 – Office Apps.Physical Requirements:General office environment with normal sitting, standing and minimal, nominal lifting.Other Relevant Information:
- Travel required, up to 50%.
The base salary range for this role is $87,600 to $131,300. This base salary range represents the low and high end of the base salary range for this position. Actual base salary offered will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and performance.This job description describes the general nature and level of work expected of a person assigned to this position.
