Job description: Overview:The Health Equity & Medicine Intern will support cross-functional projects that address systemic gaps in healthcare access and delivery for underserved populations. This internship provides hands-on experience in project management, healthcare operations, and administrative coordination, with exposure to clinical, strategic, and equity-focused workstreams.Ideal candidates are passionate about public health, health equity, and pursuing careers in medicine, health administration, or community health. Interns will contribute meaningfully to initiatives that improve care coordination, patient navigation, and quality of care across Central Health’s network. Responsibilities:Essential Functions:
- Assist with project coordination, including tracking tasks, creating meeting agendas, and maintaining timelines
- Participate in program development and improvement initiatives focused on health equity, transitions of care, or specialty referral workflows
- Support administrative tasks such as preparing presentations, updating documentation, and organizing stakeholder communications
- Conduct literature reviews or environmental scans to inform program strategies
- Collect and synthesize data from internal systems (no PHI access required) to support reporting and evaluation
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams (as appropriate) to understand how care is delivered and coordinated across the system
- Learning Objectives:
- Submit an essay (250 word minimum ) at the conclusion of the internship describing the experience
- Understand how a safety-net healthcare system is designed and managed to improve outcomes for populations
with low income * Gain exposure to healthcare delivery models, community partnerships, and quality improvement processes
- Build project management, communication, and organizational skills in a professional setting
- Contribute to real-world efforts to advance health equity in Central Texas
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Microsoft 360
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications:Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (higher degree accepted)
- Some college credit / in process (see Education Details) currently enrolled in public health, pre-med, healthcare administration, or related fields preferred
