The semiconductor industry’s adoption of Advanced Packaging solutions is a “mega trend” that requires several new technologies to be developed, ensuring that, despite the slowing of Moore’s Law at a system level, the semiconductor industry continues to deliver exceptional returns on investment in terms of computing power and efficiency. Veeco’s Wet Processing product line has grown significantly in recent years as its technologies are adopted in the semiconductor industry and navigate several inflection points in Advanced Packaging. This exciting new position of Principal Process Development Engineer in our Wet System Processing product line team is for a candidate who could play a critical role in the development and adoption of Veeco’s technology solutions in the semiconductor industry.The role will require technology leadership, partnering with strategic customers and industry consortia to determine and anticipate future requirements, developing a product roadmap through cross-functional alignment within Veeco, and conducting hands-on development work in our laboratory at Horsham. Major responsibilities include identifying new market trends and incorporating relevant technologies into our product roadmap, as well as collaborating with customers to develop solutions for their wet processing challenges, utilizing existing capabilities. In addition, this position will spend considerable time in our laboratory, leading hands-on development of new technologies and demonstrating them to our customers. This role is a highly integrated, visible, and cross-functional “driver” function that has a significant, measurable impact on the success of Veeco’s wet processing business.Responsibilities:
- Product roadmap development with emphasis on Advanced Packaging applications.
- Enable penetration of new customers and the adoption of new technologies by the industry.
- Technology Development: Hands-on technology development and demonstration of capabilities for our customers. Serve as a key point of contact between technology, marketing, engineering, and operations teams to develop manufacturable designs that meet industry standards and specifications.
- Technical sales support: Presenting Veeco product capabilities and developing customer-specific value proposals; this requires a willingness to travel to meet with customers up to 25% of the time.
- Work with Safety as the highest priority, incorporating safe practices in both day-to-day activities and the design of our products.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline (e.g., Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Software Engineering, Physics, etc.) and at least 15 years of relevant experience in the semiconductor industry and exposure to capital equipment development is required; or a Master’s degree with 12+ years of experience; or a PhD with 8 years of experience. Experience in wet processing equipment is preferred. Experience in technology project management is preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of semiconductor, data storage, or other capital equipment industries is required.
- General familiarity with application development and the qualification of new technologies for high-volume manufacturing (HVM) is required.
- Deep knowledge of high-value material problems in Advanced Packaging process flows, including hybrid bonding, is critical.
- Must be able to interpret engineering drawings, system block diagrams, electrical schematics, engineering specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Ability to multi-task and work with a cross-functional team in a matrix organization; proven ability to direct and motivate individuals with no direct reporting structure.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills and decision-making capabilities. Ability to communicate effectively with personnel from multiple functional areas, including Marketing, Technology, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, etc.
- Understanding of key engineering and technology areas, including mechanical, electrical, systems and controls, software, and vacuum systems, is preferred.
- Proficient with MS Office suite; familiarity with at least one project management software or tool, e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.
The expected salary range for this position is $149,320 – $177,285, plus a bonus opportunity. When determining your pay, we will consider your location, experience, and other job-related factors.
