Learn more about us .About The RoleSoundstripe is seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to lead our engineering organization, including direct oversight of two Engineering Managers. This leader will drive technical excellence, scalability, and innovation across engineering teams while ensuring alignment with product and business goals. This leader will sharpen priorities, accelerate execution, build resilience, and empower the team to move with confidence in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.This is a Full-Time Exempt position reporting directly to our Founder & CTO. While we are remote friendly, occasional travel may be required to attend team onsites, leadership planning retreats, and board meetings in-person.Key Responsibilities Include
- Oversee the development and execution of the engineering roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives
- Represent engineering at the senior leadership and board level as a trusted partner providing thoughtful insights that shape our broader business strategies, while creating transparency into engineering operations
- Work cross functionally with Product, Marketing, and other departments to streamline product development and ensure engineering is aligned with broader company goals
- Champion innovation by staying ahead of emerging technologies and engineering practices that can unlock speed, quality, or competitive advantage
- Define and drive engineering performance metrics, partnering with leadership to shape the right KPIs (e.g., lead time, cycle time, code quality, test coverage, DORA metrics, etc.) that align with company goals
- Shape engineering culture and standards that support scalability, accountability, and velocity
- Manage the engineering budget and make cost-effective decisions
- Continuously raise the bar on our talent density through hiring efforts and investing in the development of our engineering talent
- Ensure security and compliance are first-class citizens of everything we do, including championing best practices and requiring adherence to applicable laws and regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
Experiences You Bring to the Table
- 10+ years of engineering experience, including in comparable roles
- 5+ years of experience with OOP (particularly Ruby) and full-stack MVC frameworks (particularly Rails)
- Proven track record of successfully executing large projects amidst competing priorities and constantly evolving business needs
- Experience leading AI-driven engineering initiatives and automation strategies
- Expertise in building and leading engineering organizations optimized for delivery, efficiency, and quality
- Experience with modern cloud infrastructure, ideally in a B2B SaaS or eCommerce setting
- Strong technical acumen combined with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, actionable strategies
Bonus Experience
- Experience in SaaS, B2B platforms, and/or media/creative tech industries
- Success in managing remote or distributed engineering teams
- Prior experience partnering with product organizations on roadmap and delivery
