- Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $23.57/hr to $37.00/hr
- Two years’ experience in the construction Industry
- Note: If you hold a 4-year degree in an architectural, engineering or construction-related field you can qualify for a probationary level II certificate
As a Senior PME Inspector:
- Starting pay based on experience and certifications ranging from $26.33/hr to $44.76/hr
- Must hold a Standard Level III Building Inspections certificate
- Five years of experience in the construction industry

What does a typical day look like?
- Spend most of your time in the field with limited supervision
- Assist customers by reviewing construction plans to verify compliance with the North Carolina Technical Codes and Wake County ordinances
- Answer questions related to building codes and Wake County procedures, policies and development ordinances
- Troubleshoot site development issues and collaborate in pre-submittal meetings
- Regular communication with architects, engineers and designers to eliminate possible code violations
- Work directly with homeowners to help them understand the various requirements
Inspectors are based out of one of three Regional Centers located throughout the County.About Our TeamWake County is the capital county in North Carolina with a rapid growth and a population of just over one million. It is also home to the Research Triangle Park and several universities and colleges. Wake County PDI provides building inspections and permitting services for all unincorporated areas of Wake County and, through contractual agreements, provides building inspection services for the towns of Knightdale, Rolesville, Wendell and Zebulon. Average inspections are between 50,000 and 60,000 annually.The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- High school diploma or GED
- Five years of experience in the construction industry
- Standard Level III Code Official Certification required in one of the Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical trades upon hire” as the Time Frame AND Standard Level II Code Official Certification” under Licenses/Certifications add “Required in remaining two PM&E trades within Four years
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Inspector prequalification from the North Carolina Department of Insurance
- Strong customer service skills and principles
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office
