Job description: Responsibilities
- Serves as a role model of excellence in nursing knowledge and clinical practice.
- Major roles of the Clinical Specialist include those of practitioner, educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, and Clinical Guideline Manager.
- Utilizes clinical practice expertise to serve as a role model for collaborative practice model.
- Develops clinical guidelines for high-risk/high cost patients through clinical pathway systems.
- Conducts clinical research; assists nursing staff in applying research findings and pathway data analysis results as they relate to patient outcomes.
- Monitors resource utilization to assure appropriate level of utilization.
- Assists with the development and evaluation of policies, procedures, and standards of care; ensures consistency of clinical guideline documents and hospital-wide policies with recognized regulatory and specialty standards.
- Facilitates resolution of individual patient care variances.
- Serves as a patient advocate and as a resource for complex patient care situations.
- Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.
Qualifications1. Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
