This role is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the university’s mission by ensuring the highest quality of instruction in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s undergraduate instructional laboratories. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing the vision for labs, coordinating with instructors, and managing laboratory resources.As an ECE Undergraduate Laboratory Manager, you will:
- Supervise, coordinate, and oversee the undergraduate instructional laboratories: Develop the vision for labs, including instruction, state-of-the-art equipment, and effective space management, in conjunction with the Director of Undergraduate Laboratories (DUL).
- Ensure course needs and resources are met: Coordinate with instructors to ensure that laboratories used for both teaching and undergraduate research are well-equipped and meet course requirements.
- Supervise and manage the laboratory teaching group: Oversee undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants, providing necessary support to ensure the highest quality of instruction in ECE courses and laboratories.
- Act as an advisor to subordinates: Help meet schedules and resolve technical issues in the undergraduate teaching laboratories, recommending various personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
- Develop and administer the ECE undergraduate teaching laboratory budget: Manage schedules and performance requirements, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Serve as a liaison: Ensure best overall practices through frequent interaction with other labs and coordination of program activities.
- Advise and consult for undergraduate design-related courses: Provide guidance and support for design projects, ensuring integration with laboratory activities.
- Design and develop new laboratory experiments: Create new experiments to complement in-class learning objectives and ensure laboratory safety compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of seven year of experience to include managing projects, in managing instructional laboratories and supervising teaching assistants OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and equipment maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience with designing and/or leading engineering projects
- Experience with budget management and resource allocation.
- Familiarity with grant proposal development.

- Coordinate ECE undergraduate laboratory schedules: Work with teaching faculty to align lab schedules with class lectures prior to the semester beginning.
- Oversee undergraduate and graduate laboratory teaching assistants: Instruct TAs in the use of equipment and laboratory safety, and provide ad-hoc support in the performance of laboratory procedures.
- Provide regular TA training and mentoring: Ensure pedagogical objectives for each laboratory are met through lab preparation and weekly TA meetings.
- Support undergraduate teaching laboratories: Oversee and support labs before and during scheduled lab sessions, ensuring smooth operation.
- Identify new equipment opportunities: Research advancements in technology and purchasing/donation opportunities from equipment vendors. Ensure efficient purchasing and allocation of equipment.
- Assist with technical duties: Perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting undergraduate labs and assisting faculty in setting up experiments.
- Develop laboratory vision and plans: Assist the DUL in developing the laboratory vision, space, and equipment plans, and with the planning, design, construction, and modification of experimental hardware for teaching and research.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements: Maintain safety standards in the operation of the labs.
- Leverage space, equipment, and experiments: Identify opportunities for enhancing curriculum integration across different courses.
- Perform professional engineering duties: Apply new approaches and methods in the solution of engineering problems and for the design and development of complex and specialized systems.
- Direct major projects: Oversee assigned phases of major projects from original conception to final output, including planning and scheduling experimental procedures, maintaining quality control, evaluating and validating data, and reporting findings.
- Recommend personnel actions: Make recommendations for hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
