Since 1947, IAN+A has provided forward-thinking mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design to meet the functional requirements of our clients.The success of our firm is driven by its people, and our continuing success is the result of talent professional engineers and engineering consultants motivated toward the advancement of the engineering practices and the pursuit of design and service excellence.The Position:The Electrical Designer / Drafter is responsible for preparing detailed working diagrams and layouts of electrical equipment, electrical distribution systems, lighting systems and associated electrical building systems, including dimensions, and other related electrical subsystems common to MEP consulting engineering projects.Position Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed design drawings and specifications using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment, primarily Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD.
- Develop floor plans, schematics, schedules, diagrams and other documentation for electrical distribution and lighting systems, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Coordinate with and consult other project team members to design, layout, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
- Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
- Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
- Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
- Layout, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of building systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree (A. A.) in Drafting, Design, CAD from a two-year college or technical school required.
- 1-3+ years of experience working with the application of all conventional aspects of electrical design related to design and installation of electrical power and lighting systems in office buildings, critical facilities, schools, healthcare facilities and/or related MEP Consulting Engineering.
- Working familiarity and understanding of ASHRAE, NFPA and International Building and Electrical Codes.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit CAD software required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.)
Desired Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of various CAD software such as Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
- Knowledge of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.
- Analyzing needs and project requirements to assist in creating a design.
- The ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words, pictures, mathematical operations).
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
