Eligible candidates on the existing list do NOT need to reapply in order to remain in consideration.Superior Court locations include the Central Division in San Diego, North County Division in Vista, East County Division in El Cajon, and South County Division in Chula Vista.This position’s expected starting hourly rate is $19.84.JOB SUMMARYThis is an entry level classification in the Superior Court legal clerical series. Incumbents in this class perform a wide variety of basic legal clerical tasks. Typical duties include preparing, reviewing and processing court documents and forms; establishing and maintaining case files; utilizing automated case management tracking and filing systems; computing and collecting proper fines and fees; explaining procedural information; and providing courteous service to the general public and court staff.The IDEAL CANDIDATE should have the following:KNOWLEDGE OF:
Modern office methods, procedures, terms, and equipment; telephone usage and etiquette; official document formats; English grammar, spelling and basic arithmetic; alphabetic, numeric and chronological indexing of records and files; personal computers; word processing; principles of office and records management; and standard business computer programs.SKILL IN:
Typing/word processing at a rate of 35 net words per minute.ABILITY TO:
Codify and index official documents; read, interpret and understand legal documents; review documents quickly and accurately; verify authenticity of signatures; understand, explain and apply rules, regulations, statutes, and procedures; operate word processing equipment; use a computer terminal; use and maintain complex filing systems in accordance with law and standard office practices; maintain confidentiality; communicate clearly and effectively with tact and courtesy, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other court staff, and the general public; and assist people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds in various emotional states.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSApplicants must have at least six (6) months of full-time clerical experience which included providing customer service in person or via telephone; OR completion of an office clerical or secretarial program from a technical or community college.Successful completion of an Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in public or business administration or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience.HOW TO APPLYInterested individuals must submit an online application.
