This position will support Men’s Shirt and Knits (cut & sew).The Associate Designer supports the Designer in the Design process by serving as a liaison to Technical Design and Sourcing. Assists in executing all visual materials from the Design department specific to the Design process from Concept to in-store merchandise. Oversees the preparation of presentation Concept boards and Concept Tableaus for all design meetings. Researches latest trends within market. Constant communication with Designer and Design Director to ensure one eye view on research and development.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate in research and development of seasonal trends (Runway, Magazines, Style blogs, ect).
• Identify key ideas and images for seasonal concept, design and development
• Collaborate in shopping retail and designer markets to seek new and innovative ideas
• Contribute strong and innovative ideas and designs independently
• Work toward independently owning (from concept to final product) an entire category with guidance and direction from Design Director / VP Design.
• Follow trends and have knowledge of competitors and aspirational brands for your category
• Create and present big idea boards at concept/kickoff
• Create tech packs, communicate with tech team, drive fits, and work on follow-up issues with production
• Collaborate in identifying fabrics and trims for development
• Attend fittings to support Sr. Designer, but also be able to drive fitting for your own category
• Communicates regularly with Merchant partners to gather input, share ideas and line development direction, and get them on board.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Apparel Design
• Experience: 2 – 4 years of full time professional Design experience
• Cut & Sew Knits experience preferred
• Eye for “Express” brand. Excellent design and sketching skills. Strong fashion and creative ability. Keen trend awareness.
• Strong organizational skills & ability to manage multiple tasks
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to anticipate next
• Ability to work well with multiple team members: Positive Team player attitude
• Sense of accountability and strong work ethic
• Punctuality & dependable attendance
• Proficiency in: WebPDM, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Windows (Outlook / Word / Excel)
