Apply now.A Brief Summary of This Position:The Associate Electrical Design Engineer at Valmont Solar is primarily responsible for design and development of the electrical controls and electrical systems that are essential to solar products. Projects will be focused on modifications of existing products such as cost reductions, reliability improvements, or continuous improvements. The incumbent will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of existing and new technology products including embedded control systems, networked communication equipment, sophisticated embedded user interfaces (UI), or wireless communication products as defined by the Product Management Team and the customer. This position frequently interacts with various areas of the company including individuals from Customer Service, Field Service, and other Engineering departments. The Associate Electrical Design Engineer will work with other in-house Engineers as well as vendors to assure specifications are met and receives consultation from Manufacturing to ensure that a design is feasible and efficient. The Electrical Design Engineer supports the development of “engineering best practice” procedures and helps design validation standards.Essential Functions:
- Integral member of the Sustaining Engineering team responsible for the maintenance and improvement of existing products.
- Responsible for modifications to existing designs and products to meet changes in manufacturing capabilities, support cost reduction activities, and address reliability and warranty issues.
- Provide technical support to other departments as required toward meeting the needs of our customers
- Create technical reports and other project or design documentation, such as test reports, root cause analyses, controls schematics, drawings for manufacturing
- Follow standard design and development procedures, recommending updates to design procedures when needed
- Provide technical design inputs and technical direction for design reviews as needed
- Electrical design at both the system level and PCB level
- Assures product quality by designing QA/QC testing methods, testing finished products and system capabilities
- Ensure products are following Federal and State regulations and oversee product certifications as required
- Provide field service support to troubleshoot electrical systems in both prototypes and installed products
- Work directly with software engineering team to iterate rapidly and improve hardware platform capabilities while reducing overall cost
- Maintain positive relationships with customers, field personnel and other Valmont departments to ensure the most efficient working environment
- This role may require occasional overnight domestic or international travel (up to 10%)
- This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor of the Sustaining Engineering team and has no direct reports
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree from ABET accredited university with 1+ years relevant experience as an internship or in industry
- Experience with designing and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits, power electronics, and/or firmware development
- Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Outlook
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred
- Familiarity with UL and CE requirements desirable
- Direct experience with solar trackers
The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in Colorado is $71,600 – $111,900. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
